Elevator Development

The video below brings back many memories of the paternoster at Tower Block at my old Poly, at Perry Barr Birmingham which also happens to be now transformed into Birmingham City University.

The point here is not the huge numbers we used to try and get into the continuously moving box, but the development of lifts.

Until now they have been the best and only way to transport people, and goods vertically within both a building, and from floor to flor external. but now there seems to be a new way, and its one I think needs some looking at. Thyssen Krupp has developed a new way of looking at the problem, and you can easily see Starteck and other SciFi movies influence,,,, well I think so ! and whilst I am on the subject, is it an elevator or lift !!!!.

The second video is an animation of the concepts of this type of lift that not only travels vertically but horizontally, it also increases the number of lifts any one shaft can accommodate. no more long waits for lifts because its being held on another floor.

Todays photo is more an old nostalgic look at the way I picture lifts from the old french noir movies
